Resin driveways have become one of the most sought-after surfaces in Suffolk, and it is easy to see why. The seamless, smooth finish looks stunning, drains freely, and requires almost no maintenance. As a sub-specialism of our wider driveway service, Garden Worx installs both resin-bound and resin-bonded driveways across Saxmundham, Woodbridge, Ipswich, Aldeburgh, and the wider county — always over a properly engineered base that guarantees a finish that lasts.

Resin-Bound vs Resin-Bonded

The two systems are often confused but are quite different. A resin-bound driveway mixes aggregate and resin together before it is trowelled onto the surface, creating a smooth, flat, fully permeable finish that is SuDS-compliant and rarely needs planning permission. A resin-bonded driveway scatters loose aggregate onto a layer of resin, giving a rougher, textured, anti-slip surface that is not permeable. For most Suffolk homeowners we recommend resin-bound for its drainage benefits and premium appearance, while resin-bonded is an excellent choice for sloped sections or where extra grip is needed. We will advise on the right system during your free consultation.

The Base Is Everything

Resin is only as good as the surface it is laid on. Resin can be applied over a new permeable tarmac or concrete base, or — where suitable — over an existing driveway in sound condition. Where we install a new base, we excavate to the correct depth, lay and compact a Type 1 MOT sub-base, and install a binder course before the resin is applied. Cutting corners on the base is the single biggest cause of resin failure, cracking, and pooling — which is exactly why we never do it, and why we back every resin driveway with our 10-year workmanship guarantee.

Colours, Maintenance & Longevity

Resin-bound driveways come in a vast range of natural aggregate blends — from warm golden quartz to contemporary greys and blacks — so we can complement any property, from period Suffolk cottages to modern new-builds. Maintenance could not be simpler: an occasional jet wash and the very rare weed pulled from the edge is all it takes. A quality resin driveway, properly installed, will look superb for 15 to 25 years. Its UV-stable resin resists fading, and the permeable finish means no puddles, no ice sheets in winter, and no surface water running off onto the road.
