Garden Worx

Sensory Gardens for Children with SEND β€” built right, built safe, built in Suffolk.

A garden your child can actually use. A space that calms instead of overwhelms, that holds them safely, and that gives the whole family somewhere that works.

We design and build sensory gardens for children with autism, ADHD, sensory processing needs and other additional needs β€” across Suffolk and the surrounding area.

Three Garden Worx sensory garden concept renders side by side β€” a contained Calm Corner with retreat nook, chimes and water feature; a full sensory garden with tactile sign, balance steppers and scented planting; and an SEN Outdoor Room with covered pergola, chalkboard, bench seating and a sensory bubble tube.Concept render

Why Garden Worx

Most landscapers can plant a border and call it β€œsensory.” We come at this differently.

Alongside Garden Worx, we built a child wellbeing platform used by SEND parents, teachers and professionals β€” so we understand the world of EHCPs, sensory regulation and what these spaces actually need to do, not just how they look. We've lived it personally as a family.

That means we don't just make a garden that's pretty in a brochure. We build one that regulates, contains and engages a child who experiences the world differently β€” and that's safe enough for you to stop holding your breath.

25+ years of groundworks and landscaping behind every build. Properly drained, properly surfaced, properly enclosed. Done once, done right.

The problem we solve

If you've got a child with sensory or additional needs, you already know the standard garden doesn't work:

  • Open boundaries when your child is a flight risk
  • Hard surfaces and trip hazards
  • Nowhere quiet to retreat and regulate
  • Nothing that actually engages them outdoors

A sensory garden fixes all of that β€” a single space designed around how your child experiences sight, sound, touch, smell and movement, with a safe enclosed retreat built in.

What we build

Every Garden Worx sensory garden is designed around the seven senses β€” sight, sound, touch, smell, taste, balance (vestibular) and body-awareness (proprioceptive) β€” and built safe as standard: secure boundaries, soft impact surfacing, rounded edges, non-toxic planting.

We offer three packages so you can pick what fits your space and budget β€” full detail below.

  • Sight
  • Sound
  • Touch
  • Smell

  • Balance
  • Body awareness

Funding

Funding rarely covers a whole sensory garden β€” but the right grants can reduce what you pay, especially the safe-access element. We'll help you identify what you may be eligible for before you commit to anything.

  • Disabled Facilities Grant (DFG) β€” up to Β£30,000 in England, and for a disabled child under 19 it's not means-tested. It funds the safe access and safety element: a safe route out to and around the garden, and a safe play area under discretionary council funding. (Β£36,000 in Wales, Β£30,000 in Northern Ireland, Β£25,000 in Scotland.)
  • Family Fund β€” equipment grants for low-income families raising a disabled child. Helps toward sensory kit and some garden play equipment β€” modest amounts, not whole-build money.
  • Local Rotary / Lions clubs & Dreams Come True β€” case-by-case contributions toward the project.

Funding won't usually cover the whole build, but it can take a real chunk off. We'll itemise your quote so the access element can go toward a DFG application, and point you at equipment grants for the rest. We're not a grant service and can't guarantee approval.
